Calling All Captains will light up the stage at Rockin’ Thunder Music Festival on Saturday, July 11, and this performance holds extra special meaning as they return to their hometown of Edmonton. Hear from lead singer Luc Gauthier and guitarist Brad Bremner as they share what this city, its community, and this homecoming performance means to the band.

Where it all Began

Before Calling All Captains became a staple in Edmonton’s music scene, its members were playing in local bands, often crossing paths at the same shows. As those projects came to an end, they found a new beginning together united by a shared passion for music and a determination to keep their dreams alive. More than a decade later, that spark has grown into a band that continues to thrive, proving that the strongest connections are often built close to home.

“We inspired each other to keep the dream alive, and here we are, more than 10 years later, still going strong.” Says Luc and Brad.

A Full-circle Moment

For Calling All Captains, performing at Rockin’ Thunder Music Festival is more than another stop on the tour calendar. After more than a decade of hard work, growth, and perseverance, returning home to perform at one of Edmonton’s biggest rock festivals is a reminder of just how far they’ve come.

“It’s been a long road for us as a band, and it’s very cool to be at the level now where we are asked to play events of this caliber right here at home,” says the band.

Making Their Younger Selves Proud

Every band starts with a dream, but few get to see it unfold in their own hometown. For Calling All Captains, sharing the Rockin’ Thunder lineup with artists they admired growing up is the kind of moment their younger selves could hardly have imagined.

“We would have been in disbelief seeing our name next to the likes of Three Days Grace and Creed on billboards around the city,” explains Luc and Brad.

A Captain’s Guide to Edmonton

When they’re not on stage, the band enjoys spending time in the neighbourhoods that helped shape them. From grabbing coffee to browsing local shops along Whyte Ave, the band has no shortage of favourite spots. Their top picks include places like Labo Coffee, Ninetimes Skateshop, From Another and Foosh, and Wildrose Vintage.

“I wish we could shout out every single place we go to, but the best part of being in Edmonton is that there’s always something new just around the corner,” says Calling All Captains.
