Edmonton Urban Farm

The Edmonton Urban Farm is a 2-acre farm in the heart of Alberta’s capital.

Established in 2014 just around the corner from the Edmonton EXPO Centre, the Urban Farm connects people to food and farming within the city limits.

The Edmonton Urban Farm is a unique place for growing food and learning about growing food. It increases both food security and food literacy in one shot! Explore Edmonton manages the farm while almost 300 people in twenty-two independent groups farm it. The amazing gardens form an outdoor classroom for Explore Edmonton educational programs, like Open Farm Days. Are you a teacher looking to register your class for a visit? Check out the Urban Farm School and book your field trip!

In 2022, 7500 people visited Edmonton Urban Farm. Visitors met farmers, tasted honey, fed a laying hen, explored a vegetable labyrinth, checked out the worm compost, smelled herbs, ate edible flowers, examined bee hotels, and more.

Drop-in hours are Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (May 20-October 7, 2023). You can also visit the farm during Open Farm Day on Saturday, August 19, 2023.

Yes, there are two unisex portable toilets onsite.

We have one hive tucked away in a corner of the farm. To minimize the risk of stings while observing the bees safely you can 1) wear a hat 2) avoid floral patterns 3) avoid wearing strong scents. Of these three points, wearing a hat is the most important.

The farm is home to six urban egg-laying hens!

Urban Farm School goes ahead rain or shine in most cases. If we have — or there is imminent risk of — a thunderstorm, severe downpour, or extreme winds on the day of your visit, we reserve the right to cancel as Urban Farm School is 100% outdoors and there is no adequate space to take shelter. We’ll do this in as timely a manner as we can and we will work to reschedule if possible.
